First Morning
About this piece
A chick, an egg, and the bravest five seconds of a very small life. First Morning is the opening shot of a spring special — one wobbly hatchling meeting the world beak-first.
The comedy is structural: a body too round for its legs, wings too small for anything, and eyes placed for maximum audience melting. The shell shards are individual meshes so animation can scatter them.
Process
- Exaggerate roundness until it nearly breaks, then pull back five percent.
- Keep the beak tiny and high; low beaks read as ducks, high beaks as babies.
- Shatter the shell as separate pieces for the animation team.
